Dr. Liu is currently a Senior Global Amazon (Electrical) Engineer - Power Systems and Sustainability at Amazon Web Services. His expertise lies at the intersection of power systems, control, optimization, and machine learning. Recently, his research interests have been in investigation and development of secure control applications for cyber-physical power systems. Dr. Liu received the National Science Foundation East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes Fellowship in 2015 (PI), the Best Paper Award at the 2016 North American Power Symposium (NAPS), the Siebel Energy Scholar Award in 2017, and the Siebel Energy Institute Seed Grant in 2018.

Besides academic activities, Dr. Liu is a professional figure skating coach. He was an ice skating performer with several production companies performing around the world for over six years (2004-2010).  He also enjoys traveling; as of now, he has visited 80 plus countries.
